Plastic use in road and pavement construction is not exactly a new concept, but it does appear to be increasing. Using plastic waste to make plastic roads is definitely on the upward trend. Plastic roads mainly use plastic carrier bags, disposable cups and PET bottles that are collected from landfill sites prior to burial and are a vital part of this construction material. When the plastic is mixed with hot bitumen, the plastics melt to form an oily coat over the aggregate and the mixture is laid on the road surface like a regular tar road. They can also be made into modular slabs to be installed like a jigsaw puzzle.
A plastic material is made up from a wide range of synthetic or semisynthetic organic amorphous solids used in the manufacture of many industrial products. Plastics are typically polymers of high molecular mass and may contain other substances to improve performance and can reduce the overall cost.
It has to be a good thing that we can make use of old plastic carrier bags, because they can be a real nuisance, dangerous and damaging to the environment. These bags block drains, causing flooding, are injurious to animals who may ingest or suffocate in them.
On open ground they will act like a weed barrier in reverse, blocking germination and preventing rainwater absorption into the soil. Recycling plastic by melting releases fumes, and is only possible a few times. Toxic contents can leach into recycled water pots or water pipes. Shredded plastic is a very useful additive for tar roads.
The roads constructed using waste plastic, are known to perform better compared to those constructed with conventional bitumen. A few trial roads have been paved successfully by combining waste plastic with bitumen.
Plastic waste treatment is very hazardous to the environment as most of the plastic is burnt resulting in toxic gas being released in the environment. By managing the collection, separation and processing of plastic waste, the environmental damages can be limited by eliminating the waste from our streets.
Domestic homes and businesses place theirwaste in plastic bags ready for collection. The non biodegradable plastic bags act as a covering on the waste inside preventing it from being converted into compost. At present, less than a quarter of waste is broken down into compost. This percentage can be considerably increased by 80% and more by systematically managing the plastic waste.
The generation of waste plastics is increasing day by day. The major polymers, namely polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene show adhesion property in their molten state. Plastics will increase the melting point of the bitumen. Hence, the use of waste plastics for roads and pavements are one of the best methods for easy disposal of waste plastics.
The use of the innovative technology not only strengthened the road construction but also increased the road life as well as creating a source of income. It is hoped that in future strong, durable and eco-friendly roads that will relieve the earth from all type of plastic waste will be the norm.
Many hoarding behaviours can be put down to past experiences the individual has gone through. This may be periods of abject poverty, that makes them feel the need to hoard items just in case they could be used to good effect at a later stage. It is now thought that hoarding can adversely affect your finances. This may sound like a strange statement to make, but a bad financial situation is something we all want to avoid.

We've all been there. Our house has become a little cluttered and we feel the need to have a good tidy up. Many refer to it as a spring clean, but any time of year is a good time to de-clutter our living space. Having a good tidy up not only clears your house, it will help to clear your mind too. Research has shown that living in a cluttered environment can even have adverse effects on a person's sleep.

In an age where we are constantly looking for ways to cut down on our waste, it seems strange that so much extra waste has been created by the covid pandemic. The vast majority of this is made from plastic, so surely it could be recycled, but when one considers what it has been used for, it renders it potentially hazardous waste.

When we throw away our waste materials, few of us know or possibly even wonder where this waste will end up. Many often believe that if it goes into the recycling bin, it will be recycled and therefore they will be doing their bit for the good of the environment. Unfortunately, a good deal of plastic waste often ends up in developing countries.

Sadly this is a myth that all too many people believe, the painful truth is quite the opposite. We have all seen the triangular set of chasing arrows logo on plastic products and seem to automatically assume that it denotes that the product is recyclable.

A scary statistic is that more than eight million tons of waste plastic ends up in the ocean every single year. If we continue to pollute our oceans at this rate, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050 and it can take many years to break down if at all, not to mention the toxins it leaches in the process.
